Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for membership in a variety of professional and specialty nursing organizations at the state and national level.
Gamma Chapter – Sigma Theta Tau International
The mission of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) is advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.
Student Nurse Association at the University of Iowa (SNAUI) is the undergraduate student professional organization of the college. SNAUI meets bimonthly and offers nursing students the opportunity to develop leadership, management, and professional skills. The organization participates in activities throughout the year.
The College of Nursing Association of Graduate Nursing Students (AGNS) invites all graduate students in the College to participate. AGNS meets regularly throughout the academic year to discuss issues pertinent to students at this level and to plan events.
Iowa Association of Nursing Students (IANS) the Iowa Chapter of the NSNA, is a professional organization comprised of students preparing for RN licensure. IANS exists to advocate for growth and development of nursing students in Iowa as leaders in nursing and in society. IANS also exists to create educational opportunities to empower individuals and communities to be responsible for their holistic health and well being.
The University of Iowa Multicultural Nursing Association (UI MNA) works to recruit, support, and mentor minority student nurses from racial/ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds historically under-represented within the nursing community, including but not limited to men, persons of color. The group is open to any nursing and/or pre-nursing student interested in promoting diversity and cultural awareness within the College of Nursing and in the community. Meeting regularly, the MNA performs community service and outreach activities, and conducts educational and informational forums related to current nursing issues, diversity and/or cultural awareness issues and any other topic that could benefit nursing students and the community.
University of Iowa Men in Nursing (UI MiN) provides a framework for nurses to meet as a group, to recruit, to discuss, and to influence factors that affect men in nursing. It is open to both undergraduate and graduate nursing students, and membership is not limited to men.
