Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP)

- Staffs 24-Hour Rape Crisis Line
- Provides advocacy, support and information to victims/survivors and their family and friends
- Present throughout the medical and legal process following an assault, fulfilling the victim's legal right to an advocate
- Offers support to victims through the healing process
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs)
- Registered nurses with special training to assist rape victims
- On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Provide immediate, compassionate, culturally-sensitive health care
- Collect medical evidence that will assist in prosecuting the assailant
Emergency Room Staff
- Assist SANEs in providing treatment to victims
- Provide additional medical treatment if necessary
Law Enforcement Officers
- Safeguard victims from further harm after the assault
- Investigate the crime and collect evidence
- Collect statements from victims and witnesses
- Assist county attorneys in prosecuting the crime
Johnson County Attorney’s Office
- Prosecutes sexual assault cases to protect the community; sexual assault is a crime against the state
- Assists victims as cases proceed through the criminal justice system
- Represents victims in court
