Anita M. Stineman received undergraduate nursing education at the University of Iowa, and her MSN in Nursing Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia. She completed her PhD in Higher Education from the University of Iowa with a focus on Academic Planning and Program Development. Her research focused on factors which impact persistence in nursing students.

Anita’s background includes a vast experience with both teaching and administration in a variety of nursing education programs. Prior to joining the College of Nursing, Anita was a part of the Health Occupations Education Program in the College of Education. Part of her responsibilities in this position included working with the Iowa Department of Education as a consultant to Iowa’s community college’s nursing and allied health programs and their non-credit health programs in the continuing education divisions.

Faculty responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in the focal area of nursing education.

Anita also participates in a faculty practice initiative. She serves as Director of the Certification Center. The Certification Center maintains the written and skills state competency testing for the certified nurse aide (CNA). The activities of the Certification Center also include maintenance of multiple state-approved curriculums for unlicensed assistive personnel (such as 75-Hours Nurse Aide, Advanced Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Medication Manager, Activity Coordinator, and Rehabilitative/Restorative Aide).

Anita has worked in collaboration with Iowa Department of Public Health on a federal grant as the Curriculum Director to guide the develop of the state’s first comprehensive home and community based educational program for direct care workers. She provides the instructor training for all approved instructors and maintains a resource-rich wiki site to aide instructors in the delivery of the various curriculum modules.
