Diane L. Huber, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, is a tenured full Professor at the College of Nursing (UI CON) and the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa, where she is core faculty in Nursing Systems Administration and is the Graduate Health Systems Program Director, leading the Doctor of Nursing Practice (HS-DNP) program. She also is Academic Associate, Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; and Affiliate Faculty at the University of Minnesota’s School of Nursing. Professor Huber is a nationally recognized speaker, academic, and consultant in nursing administration who teaches, presents, and does research. Her nursing clinical background includes positions as staff nurse, nursing supervisor, and assistant director of nursing for maternal-child services.

Professor Huber is a first-generation college graduate with a passion for the value of higher education and a belief in the power of compassion, excellence, and commitment to care. She has taught leadership and management and community health nursing at the undergraduate level and teaches nursing and health systems administration at the graduate level. She has received the two UI CON prestigious teaching awards. Dr. Huber also has been the Associate Editor of the peer reviewed journal Outcomes Management. She is the author/editor of the textbook Leadership and Nursing Care Management, now in its sixth edition and translated into Spanish and Korean. She is also the editor of the book Disease Management: A Guide for Case Managers. She has authored more than 75 journal articles, as well as books, monographs, and book chapters.

Professor Huber has been an investigator in more than 30 funded research awards. Her current research focus is on innovation in nursing.

Dr. Huber is active in local community service and in regional and national professional nursing organizations and has a depth of executive leadership experience. She has been the Treasurer of the Midwest Nursing Research Society (1997-2001), served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Commission for Case Manager Certification (2003-2004), has been the President of Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (2002-2004), has been the President of the Johnson County Visiting Nurses Association’s Board of Directors (2002-2003), and has been the secretary for the Mercy College of Health Sciences (Des Moines) Board of Directors (2011-2014), where she is currently a member. Professor Huber is an appraiser for the Magnet Recognition Program® of the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has served on numerous panels and task forces, has been a grant reviewer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and has service on the editorial boards or peer review panels of many journals, including Western Journal of Nursing Research; Lippincott’s Case Management; Clinical Nursing Research; JONA’s Issues in Healthcare Law, Ethics, & Regulation; Professional Case Management: The  Leader in Evidence-Based Practice; International Journal for Quality in Health Care; Addiction; and Journal of Health Services Research & Policy.
