Current graduate nursing student Kim Moore has been awarded the first ever Kay Grother Scholarship, a recently established endowed fund that will provide support for students in the Master of Science in Nursing – Clinical Nurse Leader (MSN-CNL) program.
Moore stated that she feels very fortunate to be selected for this scholarship, which has been provided through private support by CON alumna Kay Grother (BSN ′60 and MA ′64). After completing her nursing education at Iowa, Grother led a successful career in pediatrics and public health, as well as advancing and advocating for mental health care through NAMI and AMOS with the Iowa Department of Human Services. In addition, she is an active state and national advocate for nursing education and practice.
Funding from the Kay Grother Scholarship will be immediately applied toward Moore’s tuition for the fall semester, which includes courses such as Applied Epidemiology and Health Care Infrastructure & Informatics.
“I am extremely thankful for Ms. Grother's generosity of this scholarship award. I'm looking forward to completing my MSN and will be exploring other job opportunities in the areas of leadership and/or quality,” said Moore. “Our hospital (Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa) is in the process of restructuring various units as a response to changes in health care. With a focus on patient outcomes, we will be better equipped to provide efficient, patient-centered care. I believe there will be new positions offered in our organization in the near future, and that my CNL education from the University of Iowa will prepare me to excel in those new roles.”
