Iowa Connection:
- My mother, Bunny Havlicek, was a 1940 graduate of the College of Nursing and served as secretary of student government when Nile Kinnick was president.
- My father, Frank Havlicek, was Assistant Swimming Coach in the late 1940’s and then Business Manager of Athletics. He was instrumental. He developed a program for a department mascot, Herky, to bring a new image to the athletic department. “It all started half a century ago when Frank Havlicek 48BSPE was Business Director for the UI Athletic Department….” (IOWA Alumni Quarterly, Autumn 1997, “Big Bird Faces 50” by Timothy Connors.
- I have established the Havlicek Scholarship in Nursing to honor my parents.
- Currently I serve as Chair of the Univ of Iowa Libraries Advancement Council supporting the Libraries through support of a graduate assistant.
Why I Joined the Campaign Advisory Board:
- I joined to follow my passionate support for the College of Nursing and to help further the positive impact the college makes in the lives of its students. My mother’s experience opened the world of possibilities to her as she started her life journey, and I want to help others reach their dreams.
